Your Yahoo Marketing Plan - The Complete Business Guide To Getting The Most Out Of Yahoo

Yahoo is the largest website in the world, and there is a reason for it. It's pretty much the first live web community combined with search engine technology. Millions of people use it for many purposes on a daily basis. When marketing to search engines, especially a monster like Yahoo, it's pretty much impossible to know where to start your promotions. You can always add your website to Yahoo results for a flat fee or bid on keywords using Overture. The truth is, there are many amazing free services that Yahoo offers which can add credibility, and linkability, to your business.

First things first: Make sure you have a Yahoo profile filled out with keywords and a professional description. Your Yahoo profile can talk about your business and link to your websites. Make sure you fill it out completely and use it to link to where you have a presence online - your website, blog, or social networking profiles. Explain what your business does, upload a few pictures, and keep it professional. Simple enough, right?

Here's a rundown of all the ways you can use to gain more visibility from this marketing giant.

Free Yahoo Marketing Tools: These are all of the free tools Yahoo offers to help you grow your business.

1. Explore, submit and manage your website listings, free with Yahoo Site Explorer. Yes, that's right - it's free . Yahoo requires some authentication with this, but you can add your website and upload a small text file to your server to verify ownership. You can also track multiple websites (without confirmation) so you can keep an eye on the competition - including how many pages are indexed and who's linking to them. Yahoo also lets you submit your RSS, blog, and other feeds in this section - all free. Check the Yahoo Site Explorer Blog to find out how you can submit your entire site map to Yahoo, free.

2. Add your multimedia to Yahoo. It's free and easy - any RSS technology your business uses will be included in the Yahoo search engines.

3. Become a Widget Builder. Distribute an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) news widget if you have a blog or website that publishes articles or news. Your widgets get featured in the Widget Gallery and anyone who is interested in your topic can download your feed widget any time they want. That means you'll be on their desktop whenever you post. (If you don't know how to make one, here's an excellent article for technical guidance on RSS widget creation. Yahoo also has some information in their help section about Widget creation as well as forums for developers to help each other out.

4. Join Yahoo Answers and answer questions in the industry you're involved in. There are questions in pretty much any category - law, fashion, art, entertainment, movies... You get the idea. Every time you answer a question, your profile gets linked to. You can also establish yourself as an expert if you have some time on your hands to answer a ton of questions. Otherwise, it may be best to set your sights on answering one question a day. Don't want to use a photo in Yahoo Answers? You can create your own free avatar on Yahoo easily and add it to your profiles and your Yahoo Answers account.

5. Create a Yahoo Group or at least join a few on the topic of your business. There are thousands of fan and expertise groups that interact regularly by sending out a newsletter or answering questions from group members. Make sure you fill out all of the information on your group and add your links to the group directory, if allowed.(You'll also want to remember to use your signature and tag lines when you post.)

6. Create a basic free web page in Geocities. Link to all of your important places on the web. You'll be included in Geocities search results. Add your Geocities page link to your Yahoo profile while you're at it.

7. Use Yahoo Web Calendar to publicly post your calendar and events online. You can also set it up to repeat events on a specific day of the month. It's great for sales or meetings that take place once or twice a month.

8. Yahoo Classifieds are free for selling a specific item or service. They are a little spammy, though - make sure you don't contribute to the spam by being specific and honest in your ad.

9. Yahoo Message Boards are available on any topic. Post all you want on your topic (but don't violate the terms of service) - they are pretty much unmoderated.

10. My Web 2.0 is Yahoo's new social bookmarking service - use it. Add your business links, articles, and affiliate websites with appropriate keyword tags to increase link popularity. (And keep your bookmarks in place.)

11. Add photos at Yahoo Photos. This allows your business to share your photos with the world. It's perfect for event promotion and particularly good images of your products. (Or, your business in action...Such as giving a massage or building a house.)

12. Add a Podcast to Yahoo. Yahoo allows your business to create and distribute a podcast, and has a search feature based on keyword. Podcasting is pretty popular. Not sure what your podcast should be about? If you are a business catering to consumers, make it fun. (For example, if you sell high-end clothing, you can do a daily podcast on celebrities and the clothes they wear...) If you cater to businesses, do a podcast that sells your expertise (and interview others to get their expertise, too..) If you already have a podcast, submission is free and will be picked up when you send them the link on the podcast page. They also give away a nifty button for you to use to promote your feed.

13. Make some money by becoming a Yahoo Publisher. Similar to Google, Yahoo displays content-relevant ads on your website, and you get a check every month. They have strict guidelines so you should have unique, relevant content on your website.

14. Add your events to Yahoo's Upcoming, a location-specific site that people actually subscribe to when they want to keep up with local events. It's free and you can even track how many people plan on attending, so make sure to announce it to your newsletter subscribers and website visitors so they can RSVP. If you plan on going to a specific networking event that isn't listed, you can let the world know that you'll be there or join/create a group that meets in real life at events. (Such as the "Web Conference Junkies") Yahoo recently acquired Upcoming, so you will need to register with Upcoming as well.

Cheap Marketing Tools at Yahoo

1. Get listed in Yahoo Local. They've syndicated the results so you can be found in more places. Prices start at 25.00/month - and right now, at least, the first month is free. Each listing includes a free five-page web site, which you can customize with your own text, logo, and links using a simple online wizard. Set up your web site after you enter your listing details.

2. Submit your products to Yahoo. You pay based on performance and set a budget like you would with Google Adwords. Whenever somebody ends up in Yahoo shopping, they'll be able to find specific products.

3. Basic search submit to Yahoo is affordable and prices start at $49/year and gets new websites listed faster. You can submit up to 5 URL's. Use it to list your business, blog, and other sites where you do business. You'll still need SEO optimization and incoming links to garner attention and decent placement.

4. Yahoo Campaigner is available to businesses that need an email list. Pricing starts at $10 a month, with the first month free. You can also use their list-building services by buying from InfoUsa.

Other Business Tools at Yahoo

1. Yahoo Messenger is pretty much universal, and now it is web-based. Sign up for the new Yahoo web messenger and give it to your prospects and customers so they can get in touch with you more quickly

2. Add Y!Q to your website. It embeds related search results intuitively based on keywords and context. It's still in beta mode, but the search results are pretty straight-forward. It's more search-friendly than the Google boxes.

3. Create a Yahoo Briefcase and allow users to store files and documents online. If you sign up for premium service, it's about $3 a month and you can share your files publicly. Businesses can use it to store contracts and marketing material.

4. Protect your computer, personal life, and passwords with Yahoo Security. They offer a free online viruses scan by partnering with Symantec.

And finally, keep up with what Yahoo is doing by visiting and bookmarking Yahoo Next, the blog that announces features that are new, upcoming, or soon to be nixed. And bookmark this page in case we update it. :-)

How to Evaluate a Sales Page

If you are an affiliate looking to promote a product it is very important you are not wasting your time and money on a poor quality product or poorly promoted offer. One key factor in this is the sale letter the merchant provides.

What is a 'Sales Letter' Definition:The tool that a direct marketer uses to turn a prospect into a buyer.

So when we look at evaluating a sales page there are two element.

The Offer
what they are selling at a justified price and this is broken down into 4 parts. Product, price, bonuses and guarantee.

The Copy
This is everything that surrounds the offer.

A strong offer is vital we can fix a weak offer by adding our own bonuses but thats much more expensive than fixing weak copy. With weak copy you can setup your own pre sale page and promote the strong offer that has great value and bonuses.

So now we need to Analyze Quality of the Offer:
Bonuses

* Are there bonuses (added value) included?

* If there are bonuses do they have a value associated with them? (eg.worth $47.97)

* Is there a Graphic of the bonus? ( people like to see what they are buying even if it is a downloadable product)

Product

* Is there a graphic of the product?

* Is there a value associated with the product that is higher than the price?(eg.was $299 now $97 limited time only)

* Is there a specific value to the product?(eg.$29.95 instead of $30)

* Is there an impending event, limited time offer or other call to action used?

* Is there a risk free guarantee?

So now we need to Analyze Quality of the Copy:

* Does the headline start off with benifits to the customer?

* Questions are often better sales converters than statements. Does the sales letter contain questions?

* Headlines in quotes are more powerful (even when no one is quoted). Is the headline in quotes?
* Is the sales letter broken up with subheadings?

* Do the subheadings expand or state additional benefits or describe key features?

* Longer sales letters generally convert better. Is the sales letter long?

* Does the sales letter contain benefit bullet points?

* Does the sales letter contain feature bullet points?

* Does the sales letter contain testimonials "social proof"?

* A PS/PPS/etc are some of the most read sections. Does the sales letter contain a postscript with hot benefits?

Let's look at the Buying Process:

* Is the purchase price at least half-way through the letter?

* Is there a summary of the offer and benefits just before the price?

* Are there buy buttons located in several different places in the letter?

* Is it really obvious where the cusomter should click to purchase?

Has this sales letter got Confidence Builders:

* Does the sales letter contain conversion enhancers such as a BBB logo?

* Or a HackerSafe Logo?

* Or a Icop Logo?

* Are the credit card and other processor logos located near the order button?

In all the above sections we are looking to get a yes to as many of the questions as posible. Which should produce a quality sales letter that converts to more buyers of the offer.

Lets look at some Negative Factors to take into account:

* Is there an email squeeze, either on the letter or as a pop-over box?(eg.entering your name email address for newsletter subscription)

* Choices prior to purchase delay purchases. Is there an up-sell or other version selection prior to purchase?

* The sales letter should do nothing but sell one product. Are there "traffic bleeds" from another sales letter?

* Is the letter garish in choice of color or visual features (such as blinking text)?

* Does the sales letter contain an affiliate link?

You are not going to find a perfect sales letter but if you can find one with a good product, quality copy, and value for money bonuses, with few negatives your have a very good chance of converting that traffic you send to it into buyers.

Website Marketing Strategy - How to Get More Website Traffic and More One Way Links

Whether you're new to website marketing or a veteran, you've probably struggled to find a website marketing strategy that really works. As a website designer and promoter, I have found no better way to get more website traffic than by writing articles and submitting them to article marketing websites.

There are two very good reasons to write and submit articles.

1. Articles can be written with exactly the keywords you want to target such as website marketing strategy, get more website traffic, or one way links. Whatever it is you are trying to sell or promote on your website, you can write short articles that will pull loads of new traffic to your website.

2. Once you've written your article, you get to include a paragraph at the end which has up to 3 one way links pointing back to your website. And we all know how much search engines love one way links from articles. When you get to the end of this article you'll see how I do it.

So, how do you start writing articles? First thing you want to do is some keyword research. Find out what keywords relate to your site and what keywords have less competition than the top few. I like to pick out a few phrases to make my title and then write my article around those keyword phrases. Look at my title in this article and see if you can spot my keyword phrases.

After you've written your article, you can put up to 3 links pointing back to your website in the authors resource box. It's not really a box, but that's what they call it. It's more like the last paragraph of your article. I like to make my resource box flow naturally with my article and have an invitation to click-thru and visit my site. Using articles as a website marketing strategy has definitely increased traffic to my websites.

Paid Blogging - The New Bum Marketing Method

Ahhhhh! The secret's out (with this article)

Paid blogging is going to be VERY popular soon.

...But is it another internet marketing fad, trend, or flash-in-the-pan?

Does it have sustenance?

Here are the Pros and Cons for Paid Blogging

I like to start with the cons then leave with you with the PROs because this is going to be a big deal soon and like it or not, paid blogging will be around for a while.

The cons are that some paid blogging sites require that you have a blog for a certain period of time before you're allowed to post and get paid for your blog posts. There are some advertisers paying for blog posts who require that your blog have a certain PR (page rank) before you qualify to post for them.

And the last negative thing I can think of is that you have to set up your own blogs. That's not a negative really, but this is where most people will stall, fail, and drop the whole idea of following through with this guaranteed income producer.

How does paid blogging relate to the bum marketing method?

Well, paid blogging, generally speaking, won't give you a residual income like the article writing efforts that the bum marketing method employs. You see, with bum marketing, once you write your articles, they're out in cyberspace forever, and you can make affiliate commissions off those articles.

Now, paid blogging is different because you don't make any affiliate commissions from your posts.

On the other hand, once your blog post is accepted you're guaranteed to get paid for it.

I don't claim to be the best article writer, but I do know that it's frustrating to spend a lot of time writing an article and to finally get it accepted, but then have nothing to show for all that work.

At least with paid blogging you get something out of it every time.

Here's the kicker!!! This is what make s it so great...

Thr more you post the more traffic and higher PR (Page Rank) your post gets.

That means you qualify for the higher paying blog posts. Sometime peopleare paying $1,000.00 for a blog post. Whew! Imagine that, huh?

Well, that's another way that paid blogging is similar to the bum marketing method. Both methods require a little bit of determination and writing and it pays off in the long run.

You just have to stick with it long enough to make it work for you. Again, with paid blogging, you get paid as soon as your blog post has been accepted, therefore the motivation factor is already built in and taken care of.

There are people out there that don't like to write, but they shouldn't be discouraged...

Most blogs are not candidates for the pulitzer prize these days and if you can write down your thoughts in a coherent manner, you'll do fine with paid blogging

Goal Oriented Traffic - 5 Customer Management Tips That Promote Goal Oriented Traffic Generation

How do the Marketing Gurus convince their readers to buy their products? Everybody I've talked to recently wants the answer to that question, and it's really quite simple. I'm going to tell you how to generate goal oriented traffic.

1. Get the traffic to your site.

Article Marketing offers a perfect method of bringing targeted traffic to your site. By giving your readers information about what you do in a marketing format and offering them solutions for their problems, you've created a need for more information, and implied that you have their solutions.

Give them a link to find the answers.

2. Present yourself as an Expert

Article Marketing provides your readers some insight into your expertise and knowledge about what you are all about. Give them information about your expertise and share the solutions they need for their problems. When you let them in on the fact that you understand their needs, and give them valuable solutions, they understand your expertise.

Tell them you're an expert.

3. Connect with your Reader

Article Marketing creates an intimate relationship with your reader. While you may not have met them yet, you understood their problem, suggested a solution, and offered them options to solve their problem. Your ability to interact with your reader integrates your knowledge into the reader's life. By becoming involved in your reader's life or business, they accept you as a 'friend' online.

Create an intimate relationship with your reader.

4. Show your reader where to Find Information

Article Marketing can be a really big hairy place to hang out, and you can get lost very easily. If you're knowledgeable about a topic, you obviously have resources online that provide answers for you, and you're always willing to share those with your readers. Provide links and information in your articles, on your blog, and in your website for your readers benefits.

Tell your reader where to go.

5. Give specific easy-to-follow directions

Article Marketing gives explicit directions for finding information and showing your customers what to do to accomplish their goals. Be specific and give easy-to-follow directions in your articles, on your blog, and on your website. Tell your customers exactly what you want them to do so they can accomplish the goals you set forth from the beginning, first steps to the end of your site.

Tell your reader what you want them to do.

Are you ready to fulfill your Business Goals online and Make Money while you Blog?

Your Affiliate Marketing Success Depends on These 3 Steps

Picture this: You are a new affiliate marketer. You send affiliate links to everyone in your email address book - friends, family, business contacts, even casual acquaintances you met recently. You get a few sales, you see a few hundred dollars in your affiliate commissions account. Impressed? Suddenly, the sales come to a complete grinding halt. Zero sales. You feel completely dejected. Now what? Here are three things to look at to ensure your affiliate marketing longevity.

  • Profile Your Prospects
The main reason most new affiliate marketers fail is because they have no idea who they are selling their products to.

If you intend to be in affiliate marketing for the long haul, you need to exercise long-term planning to ensure your success. It cannot be an arbitrary mass email (or spam mailing) exercise.

This means you need to invest time and effort to understand your market and your website visitor demographics. Information such as their age, sex location, hobbies occupation income level, will give you an idea of their likes and dislikes, giving you invaluable insight for the next step of the process.

  • Profile Your Products and Services
People go onto the Internet to look for information to solve problems they are facing.

An example: a man in his 40s who is facing the prospect of premature baldness will be looking for information on how to reduce hair loss and possibly reverse this potentially embarrassing problem he is facing.

Premature balding is a major issue faced by many men, if you are able to provide the appropriate product or service to solve their problems, you will be virtually guaranteed a sale.As a side-effect, you will benefit financially as well.

Timing is also a key factor in affiliate marketing. The more urgent the need, the more is price insensitive people tend to be.

Here is an example:

On a rainy day, people were being willing to pay more for an umbrella to shield them from getting wet, compared to a dry day.

When natural disasters, such as a hurricane or tornado is about to hit an area, people will be willing to pay more for water, food and emergency supplies, compared to normal circumstances.

Research is key then to be able to profile the most appropriate products and services to meet your visitors needs. If you are able to do this successfully and continuously than your successes are affiliate marketer will be virtually guaranteed

  • The Follow Up
Research shows that it generally takes about seven follow ups (which can include postcards, phone calls, faxes and emails) before a buying decision is made.

That means the prospect has to be exposed to the product or service about an average of seven times before they make the decision to buy.

It is important not just to promote the product or service once and leave the prospect to their own devices, crossing your fingers that they might choose to buy your product.

Instead, successful affiliate marketers will continue to follow up with their prospects.

In your series of follow ups, you can highlight issues that they may not be aware. This can include ways in which they can benefit from using the product and service. You can also highlight the savings in terms of time and money they stand to gain by using the product.

If your prospects see the logic behind your marketing, most rational people will make the decision to buy a relevant product or service for their needs.

If you fail to complete the sale, it could be an indication that you have not done enough to convince them of their benefits of your product. You will need to take appropriate actions to get the results you desire.

5 Steps To A Successful Online Business

There are several ways to make money online but the best, long term way is to sell products, either your own or someone else's online. Any business that involves recruiting members to generate income and "get-rich-quick" type schemes is basically a scam. The only way to make a stable, ongoing income where your customers will buy regularly from you is to create your own business.

1. The first step to online business is deciding on a product or set of products to sell. There's no limit to what you can sell, you can choose one product, several products (a family of related products) or a large array of products (like a catalogue). Spend some time researching your favorite topics online, get an idea of the type of product and the size of your potential market. Is it something you'd like to sell?, because the internet is such a big place, there are people willing to buy just about anything.

2. Once you have determined what you are going to sell, you need a web site to sell it from, however you may initially choose to sell someone else's product. In that case, you will become their affiliate and be given a special affiliate link to their site so that you don't need a web site at all. The disadvantage of not having your own web site is that all of your prospective customers get funneled through the merchant's site, sure you get credited for the sale but it's only a one off. I don't know about you but what do you think will earn more money in the long term?, a one off front end sale from a customer you'll never see again, or several sales from that same customer who is now on your list and you can market to on a regular basis. If you are an affiliate, look at investing in your own web site, capture their email address with a squeeze page then recommend quality merchants products, that way you not only get the sale but the opportunity to continue selling to them for as long as they remain your subscriber.

3. Once you get to the stage of collecting email addresses through your web site or squeeze page, an auto responder becomes an indispensable tool in helping you keep in contact with your subscribers. Research shows that it takes an average of 7 follow-up letters to make a sale, that's why it's so important not to settle on a one-off, front end sale when it's by the 7th contact letter that your subscriber is more likely to purchase, see how much you'd be leaving on the table if you did not create your own list?

4. After you have set up the web site and auto responder, the next thing you need to do is send traffic to your site. There are many ways to do that, some more effective than others. Some that work particularly well are press releases, articles, classified ezine ads, and Joint Venture email partners. Test each method and see what works better for you. Bear in mind that any form of advertising you do will need to be tested and tweaked before it will become profitable.

5. In order to perfect your advertising once you have all of those things in place, you must track and test everything you do. You must know what forms of advertising you used, what worked, what did not, what needs minor or major adjustment to work. The more you test and improve, the more successful your business will be.

Remember everyone makes mistakes when first starting out. There is no perfect way to make money online, there are several ways, as time goes on you'll learn what suits your style and what works for you, once you get to that point, you scale it and duplicate more of what works, this is what makes a successful marketer.

Follow these steps and you'll be well on your way to a successful online business.
